The Women's Community Project (WCP) for Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale opened its doors to the public on Monday 19th April 2010.

By June 2010 the Project had received 87 referrals from a variety of agencies including Probation, Police, Addictive Behavioural Services, Family Support Workers, Primary Care Trust, Children's Social Care, Domestic Abuse Services, The Cambridge Centre and NYCC Children's Centres.

The women who have been referred  present with a variety of issues around the main pathways to rehabilitation such as: accommodation, health, skills and employment, drugs and alcohol, thinking and behaviour, domestic violence, children and familes, and finance, benefit and debt.

We are delighted with the amount of women who have accessed our services so far and with the positive reports we have received from them This is a very positive indicator of just how much this service is needed in this area.

Programmes of activity which have been developed and will be delivered from the WCP include:

* Hull University Foundation Awards

* The Cambridge Centre Alcohol Treatment Groupwork Programme

* York College - Improve Your Skills - Maths & English courses

* Adult Learning Service - Adult Outreach Guidance Services & Family Learning Sessions

* The Freedom Programme (Domestic Abuse)

* PCT Health Trainers

* Coast & Moors Voluntary Action Self Help Groups (Confience Building)

We are currently recruiting volunteers to help us in our work.  If you think you might be interested in joining us please contact the WCP on 01723 354093 and we will be pleased to discuss opportunities with you.
