The Young Person’s Team has been involved in an outreach project in Pickering one night a week for almost two years and have recently started developing this service into the Malton and Norton areas.
This outreach work involves identifying and targeting hotspots where young people tend to congregate to consume alcohol and drugs. The workers engage with young people who are often demonstrating risky behaviour, offering harm reduction advice, crisis support, drug and alcohol awareness and onward referral to other services .
We liaise closely with other professionals and youth workers, sharing appropriate information to help keep young people as supported and safe as possible.
This promotes effective joint working and also encourages the young people off the streets and into the youth centres where they can take part in positive activities and also access targeted support for their own individual needs, eg. Drugs and Alcohol issues.
