The harm reduction service is a nationally recogniseassorted stockd range of interventions focused around reducing the risks of injecting illicit drugs, steroids and prescription medications.  The needle exchange provides a core to the service; needle exchange is primarily concerned with reducing the spread of blood borne viruses, (specifically HIV, and Hepatitis) amongst injecting drug users.  The Cambridge Centre manages two centre based schemes, six pharmacy schemes and a mobile needle exchange service which provides coverage across the area of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale, the scheme is one of many such schemes which runs across England, Scotland and Wales and is funded by the PCT as a public health initiative.  A harm reduction service consists of much more than the simple expedient of needle distribution and includes a range of other interventions which are available to all clients.

Should you wish to access needle exchange where you are click here for a list of centre based schemes and availability for mobile needle exchange and home deliveries.  Please see the pharmacy needle exchange page for details of pharmacy schemes near you.
